Hurricane Sandy and Snowstorm Athena

On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy devistated the Jersey Shore. The previous Spring, I made the absolutely perfect decision to have the 50 foot Oak and Maple trees in my back yard taken down. This meant that they weren't there to fall on my house, plus they gave me plenty of firewood to stay warm with.

I was relatively lucky, my electricity was out for 5-1/2 days, but I was able to eat and stay warm. The apple tree in my back yard was uprooted, as you can see below.

And if that wasn't enough, on November 7th, just 3 days after getting power back, snowstorm Athena dumped a foot of snow into the area and brought with it even more high winds. This resulted in another day of power outage. When I awoke the next day, the minitature pear tree (read as miniature pears, not miniature tree) had fallen onto my shed.

The two storms led to gas rationing throughout the state. Voting for the Prsidential election was not affected in my area.
